Simple Window Curtains – the New Vogue
A few decades ago, it was the fashion to have very extravagant draperies hanging at your windows. Not only might you have standard window curtains but also sheers as an under curtain. Then you might top your windows with an ascot valance, swags and tails or other fancy valances and your tie backs would probably not escape decoration either, whether it was tassels or beading or bows.
Fortunately, the wheel has turned and more simple window curtain ideas are now in vogue. It is quite usual to see very plain curtains at the windows of the best houses in the glossy monthly magazines and sometimes the windows are left absolutely bare although that is going a bit far for most of us. Simple curtains give our windows a more streamlined look and it also means that we no longer have to pay an arm and a leg for our window coverings.
If you are not sure what to choose to decorate your home, you can buy simple plain curtains in thick cotton or linen and add a simple tab top and they will look absolutely fine without any other adornment, as long as the color works well with the rest of your room.
Whereas in the past you might have spent copious amounts on all the extras, you can now focus your spending, even with a reduced budget, on the quality of the main fabric for your curtains.
If you keep things simple there is no need for expensive double drapery rods either. You can use a simple pole to hang your drapes. If ready made poles and rods seem expensive, you can use a length of wooden doweling spray painted to match your decor. Buy some simple finials or make something special yourself out of modeling clay.
It really is a case of “less is more” these days if you want your windows to look current, so you can forget about looking at valance styles and lengths and just think about the gorgeous plain colored drapes that will set off your room a treat.
